Suggestoins for Mojavi camping?

I am going to be camping in the southern california desert in a few weeks. i have the stuff like tent, stove, sleeping bags, clothing, lantern, knife and cooler but what suggestions would you give for equipment. Oh and any food suggestions would be amazing as well, but the catch is i am vegetarian. thanks!

There are probably a few other things that would be nice to add.
A sleeping pad or air mattress will give you more cushioning than just your sleeping bag. Putting down a tarp or "footprint" before pitching your tent helps protect your tent floor against sharp sticks and rocks.
You might want different clothes or a sleeping bag liner to sleep in to keep your bag cleaner. Give some thought about hygiene issues. A day without showering wont kill anyone, but if you stay longer you might want to think about your options available. Other extras would include a gps/compass and map if you want to do alot of hiking or camp chairs for a comfortable spot to sit. A light pair of binoculars are a personal fave for desert views, and can do double duty for looking at stars when the weather's right.
As for food, most camping websites will naturally lean away from meat just due to most campers have issues with refrigeration. So while you would probably lean away from some prepackaged stuff the ideas are generally the same. Soups/noodle/rice dishes that you can make with boiling water seem pretty commonplace.

Ps. Its a desert. Don't forget extra water.

Considering camping?

British summer time is here, and no doubt many people's thoughts will turn to where to go for their summer vacation. Sunning yourself on a relaxing beach holiday may be an attractive prospect but with the recent grounding of air traffic and sterling's deterioration in international money markets, you may be considering a holiday within the UK.

Many people love holidaying outdoor and kitting yourself out with quality camping equipment will make the prospect of camping even more exciting. It's also very cost effective – although there is an initial cost in purchasing your gear, you can use it again and again.

The range of camping equipment available can be dizzying at first. If you want to explore the great outdoors you will want to travel light, but if you plan on taking the whole family then comfort may be a deciding factor. Talk to us at Outdoor World Direct, and we can advise what camping equipment is best suited to you.

The most obvious purchase will be your tent. Whatever the weather, it's important to remember that it will be cold, so the size of your tent is important. Although it's tempting to go for one which is roomy, bear in mind that the larger it is the colder it will get at night. Only go one man bigger than what you need if you're tall or of a large build. It's also important to get a double-skinned tent, which will keep you dry. If you have to pitch your tent in the dark, you will thank yourself if you have one that is easy to erect. A lightweight Easycamp Phantom 500 tent is an ideal starter tent for couples or smaller families, and is well suited to weekend breaks.

If you have a larger family you will need something roomier. The Vango Tigris 600 6 man tent is an easy to pitch deluxe tent that offers great value for money. It gives your family plenty of room to manoeuvre and comes with a sewn-in groundsheet and a 3000mm waterproof coating.

There is plenty of other camping equipment to choose from - the only limit being how comfortable you want to be. There are areas where it's best not to cut corners – sleeping bags, for example. It's wise to invest in a 3 – 4 seasons sleeping bag, and a ‘mummy' design with a tapered shape will keep you that little bit warmer. An inflatable mattress will also help keep you warm; as well as the obvious comfort offered by it, the air in the mattress will act as an insulating layer against the ground. If you want a bedroll, get the thickest you can buy and invest in a silvered groundsheet.

If you want your tent to be a home from home, there's plenty of camping equipment available to make you comfortable. A torch or a lantern is a necessity and folding tables and chairs can make mealtimes more civilised.
Whatever your needs, at Outdoor World Direct we can recommend the best camping equipment for your holiday.
